Having a Go At Narrating

A short post this one, just some information on narrating my work on YouTube. I hope you have a pleasant time listening.

So I decided to have a go at narrating some of the stories that I have published on this blog. I have to admit, this is quite fun! I know that I am lacking certain things (microphone, talent, any real idea what I am doing) but the process has been useful and has helped me to nuance my stories (at least in my opinion).

If any of you who have taken the time to read any of my rambling musings fancy it, please click the link below to access the playlist of my narrated stories below. If you have any suggestions for improving etc. please let me know, I think they all sound a bit strange, but then again, everyone thinks that when they hear their own voice.
I hope to purchase some more equipment in the near future, meaning I won’t have to record by carefully bellowing into a mobile when recording!***

So only a short one, but I hope you enjoy the videos should you elect to click on them.
All the best,
Magpie Stories

*** Quick PS, my latest stories are narrated using a proper microphone! (Well only a cheap one but improvement is improvement.)

An English teacher by trade, an author at heart, it only took a global pandemic for me to start writing my first novel. Along the way, I found a love for creating shorter fiction which I share on this site along with some updates and (hopefully) useful writing tips.

I hope you have a... pleasant time reading.

First off I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to
writing. I’ve had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my
thoughts out. I do take pleasure in writing but it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally
lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to have a read through. To answer your questions:
– In terms of getting in the right headspace, I have found it is simply routine and planning – have a goal in mind for what you want to achieve and head towards that.

– Regarding planning, have a look at this, it outlines my thought processes in planning, I hope that helps a little!
